Texas Wine Month
October is Texas Wine Month, and Fredericksburg and Gillespie County's nearly 100 wineries, vineyards, and tasting rooms mark the occasion with special programming, new releases, and seasonal events.

Outdoor Recreation
Fall weather is among some of the best conditions of the year for outdoor recreation in Fredericksburg and Gillespie County. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is one of the most visited state parks in Texas, and the granite dome and surrounding trails are particularly rewarding in cooler fall temperatures. Day-use passes are required and available through the Texas State Parks reservation system.
Old Tunnel State Park continues its bat viewing season through October, with an estimated three million Mexican free-tailed bats emerging from an old railroad tunnel at dusk on select viewing nights. Tickets are required and can be purchased in advance.

Pumpkin Picking and Fall Farms
From mid-September through October, local farms and roadside stands across Fredericksburg and Gillespie County stock pumpkins, gourds, and fall produce. Several operations offer pick-your-own patches alongside already-picked selections, and Wildseed Farms carries more than 25 varieties of pumpkins and gourds beginning in mid-September.
