As World War II raged across the globe, Americans on the home front played a critical role in supporting the war effort. From tending Victory Gardens to working in factories that produced the tools of war, civilians made it possible for the American military to fight overseas.
This FREE Outpost program offers visitors an opportunity to learn about life on the American home front during World War II. Guests can explore real artifacts while gaining insight into daily life, wartime work, and the sacrifices made by those who supported the war from home.
Outpost programs are educational, drop-in experiences held on select Saturdays on the Nimitz Platz at 340 E Main St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624. Visitors of all ages are welcome to stop by, ask questions, and engage directly with history.

Ever wonder what it was like to join the military during World War II? From being issued dog tags to undergoing medical inspections, Americans entered the armed forces through a process that prepared them for service overseas.

The National Museum of the Pacific War invites the community to join us on November 11, 2026, from 11:00–11:30 a.m. at the Pacific Combat Zone Amphitheater for a special Veterans Day ceremony honoring the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
The ceremony will feature keynote remarks from John M. Bird, VADM USN (Ret), with the Color Guard provided by the Alamo Battalion, U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps.
Join us as we come together to recognize our nation’s veterans and reflect on their dedication, courage, and service.

The Museum’s Pacific Valor battle Reenactments each tell the story of a specific World War II serviceman whose courage shaped the course of history. This presentation centers on Chester Nez, a Navajo Code Talker whose service during the brutal Battle of Peleliu was critical to American operations in the Pacific.
Through live battlefield demonstrations and immersive interpretation, guests will experience how Nez and his fellow Code Talkers used the Navajo language to transmit secure communications under fire—saving lives and ensuring mission success during one of the war’s most grueling campaigns.
This presentation is not recommended for small children, pets, or those with heart conditions due to loud noises and simulated combat effects.
Programs are offered at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the Pacific Combat Zone.
Online ticket purchases are highly encouraged. Seating is first come, first served.

This FREE Outpost program offers visitors an opportunity to learn how the Boy Scouts of America stepped up on the home front after the United States entered the Second World War in 1941. Guests will discover how Scouts volunteered their time and skills by serving as air raid wardens, coastal patrol members, messengers, and civil defense aides.

As the Pacific War progressed, Japanese defenses grew increasingly formidable as American forces moved closer to the Japanese home islands. Well-fortified positions required new tactics and close coordination between infantry, armor, and specialized weapons.
This FREE Outpost program offers visitors an opportunity to learn how the United States Marine Corps confronted these defenses. Guests can explore real artifacts while gaining insight into battlefield tactics, including the use of tanks, satchel charges, and flamethrowers, with live flamethrower demonstrations highlighting the realities of combat in the Pacific.

The National Museum of the Pacific War will join the nationwide effort of Wreaths Across America with a special wreath-laying ceremony on Saturday, December 19 at 11 a.m. Held in the museum’s Memorial Courtyard, the event aims to place 1,500 wreaths in tribute to the service and sacrifice of America’s military members.
Guided by its core mission—“Remember, Honor, Teach”—Wreaths Across America works to ensure that the legacy of our nation’s heroes lives on. Each wreath placed represents a commitment to remember the fallen, honor those who serve and their families, and teach future generations about the value of freedom.
Each December, Wreaths Across America coordinates ceremonies not only at Arlington National Cemetery, but at more than 4,200 locations nationwide and abroad. These efforts are supported by a network of dedicated volunteers who organize local events, raise sponsorships, and help carry out a week of activities including veterans’ tributes, statehouse ceremonies, and a “Veterans Parade” traveling from Maine to Virginia.
As a nonprofit organization that receives no government funding, Wreaths Across America relies entirely on the generosity of individual sponsors, corporate donors, and volunteer truckers to fulfill its mission. Year-round, the organization also supports veterans through recognition programs and provides educational resources to schools.
Community members can play an important role in helping the National Museum of the Pacific War reach its goal of 1,500 wreaths. Sponsorships are available throughout the year, with a deadline of November 30 to ensure placement in this year’s ceremony.
